Top 10 Best Movie Gunfights
In February, the movie choices at the theaters leave a lot to be desired. Fortunately, we’re just around the corner from the Blockbuster season. That means lots of action, blood, violence, and a gunfight or two. I don’t carry a gun or hunt or think people should have guns, but guns are a great means for an exciting scene. These are the 10 greatest movie gunfights.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Back in those days, they didn’t have as many million dollars to throw around, and they didn’t have all the special effects that we enjoy today, but it still brings a tear to my eye when Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are frozen in motion for the rest of time.
Equilibrium
Moviegoers drooled over the Matrix, but a few years later, a little-known movie called Equilibrium made Neo look like a pansy, thanks to the gunfight from Christian Bale’s John Preston.
Hard Boiled
If only there were a movie that was just one hour and a half long gunfight. Well, this is about the closest you’re ever going to get, as the gunfight in the hospital in the movie Hard Boiled comes in at around 30 minutes.
Heat
I hate to break it to you, but Michael Mann is overrated. However, Michael Mann does know how to put on a good gunfight. Mann has had many great gunfights, but the one from Heat is definitely the best.
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
The gunfight in Raiders of the Lost Ark is the shortest and sweetest gunfight of all time. It only takes Harrison Ford one shot to end this battle with his sword-spinning foe.
Robocop
At the time, Robocop was so violent that they had to edit it down from its original X rating. You could really pick any scene in the movie. Since I haven’t chosen a scene in particular and since I can’t find a good video of any Robocop scenes, you’ll have to settle for this video of Robocop making his World Championship Wrestling debut.
Saving Private Ryan
Which scene of Saving Private Ryan is the best gunfight? I don’t know, pick any scene you want. Just don’t pick the one where Vin Diesel dies.
Terminator
When Arnold said, “I’ll be back,” that was your signal to high-tail it, you moron cops. Now 17 of you are dead. Next time somebody says they’ll be back, listen to them! The gunfight between Arnie and the cops was a one-sided gunfight, but it counts.
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
I’ve probably seen the final gunfight in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly a hundred times, and yet every time I watch it, I still bite my fingernails because of the suspense of what is going to happen next.
Tombstone
Technically, there are no bullets fired in this “gunfight.” But in this scene from Tombstone, Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo show off some incredible gunmanship. First, Johnny Ringo shows us some gun tricks. Then, Doc Holliday follows by mocking Johnny Ringo with the cup he is drinking out of.
